Papelbon suspended 3 games

Pap got suspended by the league for 3 games for his actions after getting ejected in Saturdays game against the A's. Apparently he made contact with the umpire. I watched it happen and if there was any contact it must have been entirely incidental. Incidental contact.

In the aftermath of his ejection I noticed a lot of Pap bashing happening on twitter. To my surprise I came to his defense. Of course there is no excuse for giving up a four run lead like that but he had a whole lot going against him that inning. In his mind the ump was squeezing the strike zone. His catcher and captain had just been ejected arguing in his defense. And after watching that big lead slip away there was only so much he could take.

But still he didn't lose his composure as far as I'm concerned. He got himself together and threw a strike. Placed the ball RIGHT where all the other pitches had been before. He sort of threw his hands up like , "Where was that before?" But it didn't look like he actually verbalized anything to the home plate ump. Instead, Randazzo whipped his mask off and took steps toward the mound, barking out at Pap. That's when Pap lost it, sprinting off the mound towards Randazzo and getting right in his grill.

Naturally Pap is appealing the suspension. Definitely can't afford to lose him for the Yanks series.
