I should blog about baseball yes? Yes.

Just 10 short days left until Opening Day. I realized i haven't been keeping up with Spring Training as much as I should have. It's tough for me to know when they're on TV. If I do happen to stumble across a game it's normally like the ninth inning and they just brought some guy into hit, whose jersey number is like 394 or something. At that point I'm all set.

But there have been plenty of encouraging signs from Fort Myers this spring, especially from most of our starting pitchers. Jon Lester has been leading the way as usual. While there should have been little to no debate that he was the right man to put out there on Opening Day, he's done nothing but prove that's the right choice so far this spring.

He's thrown exactly 16 innings, giving up only 6 earned runs, and fanning 16. Yesterday was his final extended outing of the spring and although he was scheduled to throw around 90 pitches that ended up being stretched to 98. At this point in spring training if he didn't get shelled or hurt, I chalk that up as a success. Now it's time to start scaling back his pitches in preparation for April 1.

"For the most part, he was really good," said Terry Francona evaluating Lester's outing. "He had a couple (at-bats) where he had four-pitch walks and just lost the zone for a minute. But his stuff was real good, he threw all of his pitches and got real deep into the game. So that's good."

Going up against Roy Halladay is a tough matchup for pretty much any pitcher in this league, but Jonny baseball pretty much held his own. It's too bad the offense couldn't have given him any run support but still, these games don't count people. No need to be calling the whiner line and expressing your concern. Just chill. Chill it.

Clay Buchholz has been pitching like he's trying to get to a higher level. Someone needs to tell him this is the Major Leagues. Doesn't get any higher than this. In 13 innings pitched he's struck out 7 and only given up 1 earned run. I've heard more than one so called expert on ESPN declaring that Clay's last season was a fluke. I think not, and so does Clay.

Enough about the pitching of the baseball. Onto the hitting of the baseball. Jacoby belongs at the top of this lineup. He's hitting .390. While Crawford hasn't been TOO impressive those two belong 1 and 2 in the order respectively. Tito has hinted that Crawford and Lil Dusty could pretty much be interchangeable at the 2 and 3 spots. It'll be interesting to see what he decides to do.

10 days. I'm just going to stare at that countdown on ESPNBOSTON.
