Heath Evans: Haynesworth can't motivate himself

Former Patriot and now recently retired fullback Heath Evans has always been known for his eloquence and candor when he addresses the media. His willingness to speak openly looks like it may just increase now that he's left the league.

Evans touched on a number of subjects during his appearance on the Dennis and Callahan show Friday morning. He said that Belichick was the "funniest guy [he's] ever been around in his life." He may be exaggerating a little there but I actually don't doubt the Hooded One's sense of humor. It's briefly put on display on his brief stints with NFL Wired.

Speaking on Albert Haynesworth Evans made it clear that the big man is capable of wreaking havoc this upcoming season. But he also warned that at this stage of his career, Haynesworth does need someone to light a fire underneath him.

"At his age, and at really his accomplishment level too, he needs someone to motivate him. It's been proven that he can't motivate himself."

Coach Belichick is the ideal coach for Haynesworth at this point, Evans said, because of his focus on discipline. The Patriots also of course restructured Haynesworth's contract, giving themselves an escape route should the relationship turn sour.

Long time Patriots veterans like Wilfork, Brady, and Faulk have no doubt been in his ear, preaching the importance of the Patriot Way. While he's certainly no drill sergeant, it wouldn't surprise me if one talk from Robert Kraft was all it took to convince Haynesworth. Kraft is a natural leader, but still very soft-spoken and easy to respect.

There is a chance Albert could make his preseason debut tomorrow night, as he has been in full pads the last three practices with little limitations.
