Pedro wants to play with us?

So WEEI reported here that Pedro is considering pitching again in the majors. It's interesting I never knew that he didn't officially retire from the league. He says he could be ready to pitch to big league hitters in a month to a month and a half and that he would only want to pitch for a championship contender. He mentioned the Phillies as a possibility but stated he would prefer to pitch for the Red Sox because he wants to go into the hall of fame wearing that hat.

Now, maybe I wouldn't be saying this if we had started out 8-0 but I don't think this is the worst possibility in the world to explore. Even though Pedro is 39 and well past his prime, he still has great stuff. When you have a changeup as good as his its possible to be successful in this league even when you lose something off your fastball. He can throw that pitch back to back for strikes because of how deceiving it is and because of the movement it has. In the past two years Clay Buchholz has developed a similarly impressive changeup. Of course, Clay can still throw 95. Pedro will not be able to do that anymore.

But it is becoming clear that our starting rotation is our weakest link. At this point I would honestly feel more confidence with Pedro on the mound then John Lackey, or maybe even Daisuke. Maybe that is just because of his history with the Red Sox, and that seeing him up there would bring back all those memories. Naturally it would. But that doesn't take away from the fact that this guy can still get it done. He didn't pitch last year, which some people think is the worst thing for a pitcher. I look at it differently. He had a year away to gather himself mentally and to let himself heal physically. In 2009 with the Phillies he went 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA, and 37 strikeouts in just 44 innings.

I don't even know if Theo would explore this but I would if I was in charge.
