A little variety might be nice

Rob Gronkowski has 11 touchdowns. Wes Welker has 8. Aaron Hernandez 5 and Deion Branch has 4.

That's just four players who have caught a touchdown pass from Brady this season. Is it a cause for concern? Maybe maybe not.

Earlier in Tom's career his mantra was throwing to the open receiver. Spreading the ball around, getting everyone involved. It wasn't unusual for more than ten players to finish the year with a TD grab.

Certainly there is a disparity of talent between todays squad and the teams in the middle of the decade. Gronkowski is the best tight end Brady has played with. There are some games where it feels like throwing to Gronk on every down would be a productive option. Wes Welker is the best receiver in the league.

But there have been individual games where teams have been able to shut down one of those two. Could the Patriots come across a team, maybe in the playoffs, capable of erasing both players from the equation? And in that scenario would Branch and Hernandez be enough to stabilize the passing attack?
