So how's he gonna help?

Ok so from here on out I'm calling him Dropkick Murphy. I don't even care if someone else thought of it first.

The question is, now that we went through this hellish buyout, clearing of waivers process, what does he actually add to our team? Actually quite a lot, even though some experts are saying we only wanted to keep him away from the Heat

At 6-11 Troy Murphy obviously adds length and a lot of it. While I myself was somewhat against the Perk trade, the biggest knock on it was that it made us smaller. Well with this signing that doesn't hold true anymore.

Dropkick Murphy is a natural rebounder. People who don't know stuff label him as soft just because he has the ability to shoot threes, but thats not factual. The guy averaged 10.2 rebounds per game last year for the Pacers. Just for some perspective, Perk's career average is 6 per game.

Now don't think for one second that I'm knocking Perk at all. He WAS our interior defense and Dropkick Murphy cannot and will not be able to duplicate that. But what he can do is contribute a whole lot more offensively. He knocked down 128 threes last year, shooting close to 40 percent. When opposing centers or power forwards have to respect the deep ball from him, that does so much to open up driving lanes for all the guards.

It'll be exciting to watch how Doc uses him. But in my opinion, we are now a much better offensive team than we were before last thursday, or even yesterday. How will these deals affect the defense against elite teams? That remains to be seen. Everyone says that you become a better defender just by wearing the same jersey as KG. Hopefully thats true for Dropkick Murphy, Krstic, and Green.

When's St. Pattys Day?
