Darnell Mcdonald got into beast mode

Darny was one of my favorite players to watch last year. He found a place in all Sox fans hearts in his first game April 20, where he hit a game-tying homer in first at-bat, and then followed that with a game-winning single in the very next inning. I considered it his bday present to me. Yes, I was born on 4/20.

This offseason Darnell put some serious work in. He knows whats going to be asked of him this year. He understands full well how important his versatility is to this team. He really is a five-tool player. Hopefully injuries won't push him into a starting role but if that situation arises he'll be more than ready. Looking to improve his base-stealing abilities, McDonald worked out at Arizona State University with a few track athletes. He went through all their grueling track and field workouts, which includes a run up "A Mountain".

I love this kind of stuff, when athletes train in a different kind of way for their sport. I think it pays huge dividends. We all heard about TB12 training as a boxer before this past season. Ochocinco has been doing the same for a few years now. Michael Vick credited getting his legs back to doing some similar track and field workouts. So hey, we know Darny's definitely in shape. And we also know that J.D. Drew is going to miss his usual 30 games a year with that troublesome hammy of his. I like the sound of a Crawford, Ellsbury, McDonald outfield. A ball wouldn't touch the ground out there.
